Here we go!

Jul 1, 2021   //   by lorelei   //   Blog  //  No Comments

I love this phrase! It’s a phrase I say at the start of a new and exciting creative project.

But to be honest I haven’t felt that creative in the last 15 months. The uncertainty and isolation took its toll on me. I had to focus on taking care of my family and my own mental health. Some days it was a “win” to just get out of bed. I know I’m not the only one.

Now it’s July 2021, and I’m feeling creative once again. I’m inspired and have ideas for projects I want to do this year and next.

In the coming year, Moonrise will be developing several projects, some big and some smaller. I’m looking forward to working with talented people, crew and cast, creating meaningful and entertaining content that connects with audiences. I love the collaboration process of production and can’t wait to get out there.

So, here we go!

Party time!

On Saturday night, we held a private screening and party for The Gift. The venue was the church hall where we filmed some of the scenes. It was awesome to celebrate the completion of The Gift with our contributors, family, friends, cast, and crew.

Check out our Facebook post for photos of the evening!

And we are wrapped!

What an amazing experience it was to film The Gift with such a talented cast and crew!

Thanks so much to everyone involved in making this film. To find out more, go to http://www.moonriseproductions.ca/completed-projects/the-gift/

Now for the postproduction stage of the project. Our extremely talented editor Andy Morris will be working on the edit and music for the next few months.

We’re also very excited to have a song called “Worth It” written by Brant Pethick and Jaylene Johnson over our end credits. Check out Brant’s website Brantpethick.com

“And it’s a wrap!”

“And it’s a wrap!”

Those final words of principal photography on “Louder Than Words” were spoken at 8:40pm on Sunday, September 23, 2012. After two long but very productive days, we were done. The shoot went extremely well. We loved the experience of working together and watching our two lead actors, Drew Moore and Catherine Rainville, bring the characters to life.

It’s hard to believe that this part is over after all the prep work and planning.  For me, as the writer and director of this project, it was a dream come true. It has been the best experience of my life so far. I have learned so much from this journey and it reinforces the fact that this is what I’m meant to do. Nothing else in my working life has been as rewarding as collaborating with the cast and crew to create something that I am immensely proud of. I can’t wait to get it finished and out into the world.

Along the way so many people supported and helped to make this happen, including all our financial contributors, volunteer extras, the Film Office at Invest Ottawa, Mensour Talent Agency, Sparks Street, and many more. And of course our two amazingly talented lead actors. Drew and Catherine were wonderful to work with; I’m excited to see what they will do in the future. It takes a village to make a movie and I am truly grateful to everyone for giving their support and talents.

Now we are putting it all together in the editing room and getting it finished so we can submit it to film festivals. We will also be designing the posters and t-shirts to get them out to the contributors who are receiving those perks.

In the meantime, you can see updates on our website moonriseproductions.ca; our Facebook page: facebook.com/MoonriseProductionsCanada and you can follow us @moonrise_films on twitter.com.

Cheers,

And so it begins

The beginning of a new project is an exciting time. We’re preparing to shoot our next short film called “Louder Than Words”. On Sunday, we tested out the GoPro camera with a waterproof Dive Housing with a flat lens. The regular housing that comes with the camera has a fish eye lens which is not the effect we’re looking for. So it was essential to get a flat lens housing. I was very lucky to have found the GoPro Dive housing at Bushtukah last week, last one left, so the timing was perfect. I’m happy to say the test went well and it’ll be fun to shoot underwater.

We also recorded our IndieGoGo campaign video. IndieGoGo is a crowd-source fundraising website that allows us to build a webpage to seek out financial support for our project. At the moment we are putting together our campaign page and hope to go “live” very shortly.

As we move forward, our next step we will be casting local professional actors (ACTRA members). This is the first time we are working with ACTRA Ottawa and so far the experience has been great. Chris at ACTRA was very helpful in answering my questions. If you know of any actors, pass on the word that we’re looking for a male and female between the ages of 20-40. Contact me at lmiller@moonriseproductions.ca to find out more info.

Our first shoot date is August 18th and I can’t wait to get started!
